A north-end community practice space offering traditional ashtanga yoga in the tradition of Manju P. Jois, the eldest son of Sri K Pattabhi Jois.

Ashtanga practice space is co-directed by Jody Manley and Terrilee Bulger. Jody is the first Canadian student to be authorized by Manju to teach Ashtanga yoga..

Ashtanga yoga is thought to be a difficult practice based on how it is taught. In our view, everyone can practice ashtanga yoga regardless of age or ability.

We offer Mysore classes and traditional led classes. In Mysore classes, students are taught one on one in a group setting; each students practice is individualized based on need. Led classes are taught in a traditional format, including pranayama & meditative chants-modifications are provided so all levels can participate.

Note to beginners: Beginners are welcome at both Mysore & led classes. We recommend emailing us prior to coming to class. In addition, we regularly offer 'intro to ashtanga' taught in four week segments - consult our special classes section for our next offering.

We had a fantastic workshop with Manju; May 6 to 12 2017. Thank you Manju for coming – we look forward to our 2018 training.

All of our teachers are trained to teach traditional Ashtanga, having completed teacher trainings with Manju Jois.

our teachers

Jody is a long time student of the Ashtanga practice and, is authorized by Manju Jois to teach primary & intermediate series. She is the first Canadian to receive Manju's blessing to teach. In addition to her continuing studies with him, she travels annually to the House of Zen on Maui to practice with senior teacher, Nancy Gilgoff.

Jody teaches from her home studio in the south shore in addition to co-directing Ashtanga practice space. She is the founder & director of TAPAS (traditional ashtanga practitioners atlantic society).

Terrilee is a long time practitioner of Ashtanga Yoga and also enjoys teaching. Since 2013, she has taken annual teacher trainings with Manju Jois including primary & intermediate series as well, yoga therapy. In addition, she has completed a mentorship with Jody Manley and continues to study under her.

Terrilee has taken several other trainings and workshops with senior Ashtanga teachers but her current passion is continuing to learn and follow the traditional teachings of Manju.

Andrea came to the practice of Ashtanga yoga in 2013 after several years of practicing other styles. She was immediately drawn to Ashtanga after completing her first Mysore class and was eager to continue learning. Andrea has taken annual teacher training with Manju Jois since 2014, in addition, completed a mentorship with Jody Manley and continues to study with her.

Andrea has a keen interest in the meditation practice of Yoga Nidra and also completed teacher training in this method of yoga in 2016.

Bryan has been practicing meditation in the Shambhala tradition for 13 years. He is a Shambhala guide, a faculty member of the Atlantic Contemplative Centre (ACC) and has completed numerous group and solitary meditation retreats at centres in Nova Scotia, the US and Europe.

Bryan practices Ashtanga Yoga. He has a personal and business focus on mindfulness, health and wellness.
